Clackmannan (UK Parliament constituency)

Clackmannan was a United Kingdom Parliament constituency represented in the House of Commons. It was a county constituency covering the county of Clackmannanshire in Scotland.

History:

The constituency was created in 1708 following the Acts of Union, replacing the former Parliament of Scotland constituency of Clackmannanshire. It existed until 1918, when it was merged into the Clackmannan and East Stirlingshire constituency. For most of its existence, Clackmannan returned one Member of Parliament (MP).

Boundaries:

The constituency's boundaries were coterminous with the geographic county of Clackmannanshire. Due to its small size, Clackmannan was occasionally considered for amalgamation with other constituencies during boundary reviews, but it retained its separate representation until 1918.

Notable MPs:

While not a particularly large or historically significant constituency, Clackmannan was represented by a number of individuals who later held prominent positions. [Further research is needed to identify and list specific notable MPs who represented the constituency.]

Succession:

Following its abolition in 1918, the area covered by the Clackmannan constituency became part of the new Clackmannan and East Stirlingshire constituency. This constituency was subsequently replaced by others in later boundary changes. The present-day constituency covering most of the area is Ochil and South Perthshire.
