Central Heating (Heatwave album)
Central Heating is the fourth studio album by the British funk/disco band Heatwave, released in 1980 on the GTO Records label. It was produced by Barry Blue.
The album marked a significant shift in Heatwave's sound, moving away from their earlier, more overtly funk-oriented material towards a more contemporary, disco-influenced style with elements of soul and pop. This change in direction proved controversial among some fans and critics who preferred the band's earlier sound.
Central Heating features several tracks, including the singles "Gangsters of the Groove" and "Jitterbuggin'." The album's overall theme explores themes of urban life, romance, and the energy of the dance floor. While not achieving the same level of commercial success as their previous albums, Central Heating is considered a notable entry in Heatwave's discography and a reflection of the evolving musical landscape of the early 1980s. The album also highlighted the vocal talents of lead singer Johnnie Wilder Jr. and featured the band's signature tight instrumental arrangements.
