In the context of liver surgery, "Cantlie" refers to the Cantlie line, an imaginary plane that divides the liver into its anatomical right and left lobes. This line extends from the gallbladder fossa to the inferior vena cava (IVC). It is a crucial landmark used by surgeons during hepatic resections (liver resections) to ensure adequate blood supply and drainage to the remaining liver tissue. The right lobe of the liver lies to the right of the Cantlie line, and the left lobe lies to the left. The middle hepatic vein runs along this plane.
