Boston Bulldogs (AFL)
The Boston Bulldogs were a proposed expansion team for the Arena Football League (AFL). The team was announced in 2003 and slated to begin play in the 2004 season at the TD Banknorth Garden (now TD Garden) in Boston, Massachusetts. However, the team never materialized due to financial and organizational challenges faced by the ownership group.
Despite initial fanfare and the hiring of a coaching staff, the Bulldogs failed to secure sufficient sponsorship and financial backing to sustain operations. The team's inability to finalize a lease agreement with the TD Banknorth Garden further complicated matters. Ultimately, the AFL revoked the franchise before the season began.
The Boston market would later be served by the New England Sea Wolves, who moved to Hartford, Connecticut and then back to Albany, New York. Arena football eventually returned to Boston in 2019 with the Massachusetts Pirates of the National Arena League. The Bulldogs, however, remain a footnote in the history of short-lived sports franchises.
