Bill Doran (third baseman)
William "Bill" Doran (born January 22, 1958) is a former professional baseball player who played primarily as a third baseman in Major League Baseball.
Career:
Doran played college baseball at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He was drafted by the Houston Astros in the sixth round of the 1979 Major League Baseball draft. He debuted with the Astros in 1982 and spent the majority of his career with the team, playing through the 1990 season.
Doran was a key member of the Astros teams that competed for National League pennants in the 1980s, including the 1986 team that reached the National League Championship Series against the New York Mets. He was known for his solid defense at third base and his ability to get on base.
After leaving the Astros, Doran played for the Cincinnati Reds in 1991 and 1992, and then finished his career with the Milwaukee Brewers in 1993.
Post-Playing Career:
After retiring from baseball, Doran has been involved in coaching and instruction.
