Biblists

Biblists, also sometimes referred to as Bibliolaters (though this term carries a more negative connotation), are individuals or groups who place an exceptionally high emphasis on the Bible, considering it the ultimate authority and source of truth in all matters of faith, doctrine, and sometimes even morality and aspects of daily life.

This emphasis typically involves a belief in the Bible's inerrancy (that it is without error in its original manuscripts) and/or its infallibility (that it is incapable of error in guiding faith and practice). Biblists often prioritize direct interpretation of the Bible over tradition, reason, or other sources of authority.

Different interpretations of the Bible and varying levels of adherence to its literal interpretation can lead to a wide spectrum of views among Biblists. Some may focus on the overarching themes and principles within the Bible, while others may adhere to a more literal reading of specific passages.

The term "Biblist" is sometimes used neutrally to describe someone who is deeply devoted to the Bible. However, it can also be used critically to suggest an overreliance on the Bible to the exclusion of other valuable sources of wisdom or an overly rigid and potentially harmful interpretation of its teachings. The negative connotation is more pronounced with the term "Bibliolater," which implies a worshipful or idolatrous attitude towards the Bible.
