Autumn (2009 film)
Autumn is a 2009 post-apocalyptic horror film directed by Steven Rumbelow. It is based on the 2005 novel of the same name by David Moody. The film stars Dexter Fletcher, Ashley Mulheron, and David Carradine (in one of his final roles).
The film depicts a world ravaged by a mysterious plague that kills the majority of the population. However, the dead do not stay dead; they reanimate as mindless, flesh-eating creatures, referred to as "Autumn People" in the original novel and, implicitly, in the film.
The story follows a small group of survivors as they struggle to survive in this new, hostile world. They face constant danger from the undead and must also contend with dwindling resources and the breakdown of social order. A key theme explores the survivors' reactions to the reanimated corpses and the moral dilemmas they face when dealing with people who are essentially dead but retain a semblance of their former humanity.
The film is characterized by its low-budget production, gritty realism, and emphasis on psychological horror rather than overt gore. While the film is faithful to the general plot of Moody's novel, certain details and character arcs are modified or omitted. A sequel, Autumn: The Second Death, was released in 2007 and is based on the second novel in the Autumn series. The 2009 film is a re-adaptation of the first novel with a different cast and director.
