Ashaval
Ashaval was a medieval city located in present-day Gujarat, India. It predates the city of Ahmedabad and served as an earlier settlement in the same geographical area.
History: Ashaval is believed to have been established by the Bhil chieftains, tribal leaders who controlled the region for a significant period. Historical accounts suggest a continuous habitation in the area from at least the 11th century, if not earlier. Ashaval was an important trading center, particularly for agricultural products and textiles.
Decline and Replacement: The city's significance gradually declined with the rise of Karna, a Solanki ruler, who conquered Ashaval and established Karnavati. This marked the beginning of a shift in power and importance. Subsequently, Ahmedabad was founded by Sultan Ahmed Shah in the 15th century, effectively eclipsing Ashaval and Karnavati. Ahmedabad then rose to prominence as the major city in the region, relegating Ashaval to historical obscurity.
Present Day: Today, no significant visible remains of Ashaval exist as the city was likely absorbed into the expanding urban sprawl of Ahmedabad. The legacy of Ashaval primarily exists in historical texts and accounts documenting the pre-Ahmedabad era of Gujarat. The area where Ashaval once stood is now part of modern Ahmedabad.
