Apo myna

The Apo myna ( Basilornis mirandus ) is a species of starling endemic to the Philippines. It is found only on the island of Mindanao, primarily in montane forests. This bird is characterized by its black plumage with iridescent green or blue sheen, a distinctive pale grey to whitish patch around the eye, and a long, decurved bill.

The Apo myna is generally observed in small flocks or pairs, foraging in the mid-canopy and upper levels of the forest. Its diet consists mainly of fruits, berries, and insects. The species is named after Mount Apo, a major volcanic peak in Mindanao where it is commonly found.

The conservation status of the Apo myna is currently classified as Near Threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Its population is threatened by habitat loss due to deforestation, agricultural expansion, and mining activities. Conservation efforts include habitat protection and reforestation programs within its range.
