Ankogel
The Ankogel is a mountain in the High Tauern range of the Central Eastern Alps in Austria, located in the state of Carinthia. It is part of the Ankogel Group and reaches an elevation of 3,252 meters (10,669 feet).
The mountain is a popular destination for both summer hiking and winter skiing. The Ankogelbahn, a two-section gondola lift, provides access to the Ankogel ski area, which is known for its reliable snow conditions due to its high altitude. While not the largest ski resort, it offers a variety of slopes for different skill levels and is often less crowded than other resorts in the region.
During the summer months, the Ankogel area is popular for hiking and mountaineering. Numerous trails lead to the summit and surrounding peaks, offering stunning views of the surrounding alpine landscape, including the nearby Großglockner, Austria's highest mountain. The geology of the Ankogel consists primarily of metamorphic rocks.
The Ankogel is accessible via Mallnitz, a village located at the foot of the mountain. Mallnitz is also known as a gateway to the High Tauern National Park.
