Andy Haldane

Andy Haldane (born 1967) is a British economist who has held several prominent positions in public service and academia. He is known for his work on financial stability, monetary policy, and regional economic development.

Haldane served as the Chief Economist of the Bank of England and a member of its Monetary Policy Committee from 2014 to 2021. Prior to that, he held various roles within the Bank of England, including Executive Director, Financial Stability. During his tenure, he was a vocal advocate for greater regulation of the financial sector and explored innovative approaches to economic challenges, including utilizing digital currencies and distributed ledger technology.

After leaving the Bank of England, Haldane became the Chief Executive of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) in 2021. At the RSA, he leads the organization's efforts to find practical solutions to social challenges.

Haldane has published extensively in academic journals and policy publications. He is also a frequent speaker at conferences and public events. He is a Visiting Professor at King's College London and an Honorary Professor at the University of Nottingham.
