Andrey Melnichenko (industrialist)
Andrey Igorevich Melnichenko (born March 8, 1972) is a Russian billionaire industrialist and philanthropist. He is the founder of EuroChem, a leading global fertilizer company, and SUEK, a leading coal producer. He also held a controlling stake in TMK, a global manufacturer of steel pipes, before selling it.
Melnichenko graduated from Moscow State University with a degree in Physics and Mathematics. He started his business career in the early 1990s, engaging in currency exchange and commodity trading. He subsequently invested in various sectors, including banking, mining, and energy.
Through his holding company, AIM Corporation, Melnichenko owns significant stakes in EuroChem and SUEK. These companies operate globally, employing tens of thousands of people.
Melnichenko has faced scrutiny and sanctions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. He has contested these sanctions, arguing that he is not aligned with the Russian government and that the sanctions unfairly target his businesses.
He is known for his ownership of luxury yachts, including "Motor Yacht A" and "Sailing Yacht A," designed by Philippe Starck.
Melnichenko is married to Aleksandra Melnichenko, and they have two children. He is a significant donor to philanthropic causes, focusing primarily on education and scientific research through the Andrey Melnichenko Foundation.
