Al Bumbry
Alonza Benjamin "Al" Bumbry (born May 21, 1947) is a retired American professional baseball outfielder and coach who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1972 to 1985.
Bumbry spent the majority of his career with the Baltimore Orioles (1972-1984), where he was a key contributor to multiple playoff teams, including the 1983 World Series championship team. He concluded his MLB career with the San Diego Padres in 1985.
Known for his speed and aggressive baserunning, Bumbry was a valuable leadoff hitter and defensive outfielder. He led the American League in stolen bases in 1973 and was a consistent stolen base threat throughout his career. He was nicknamed "The Bumble Bee."
After his playing career, Bumbry served as a coach for several minor league and major league teams, including the Baltimore Orioles. He is a member of the Baltimore Orioles Hall of Fame. His jersey number 2 was retired by Coppin State University, where he played college baseball.
