Absolute Magnitude (magazine)
Absolute Magnitude was a Canadian science fiction magazine published irregularly from 1990 to 2005 by publisher Absolute Magnitude Partnership, initially edited by Warren Lapointe, then subsequently by Edward (Ed) Bryant until 2002, and later by Brian Youmans.
The magazine was known for publishing a mix of established and emerging science fiction and fantasy writers, often featuring thoughtful and character-driven stories. While not a consistently high-paying market, Absolute Magnitude gained a reputation for providing a platform for authors exploring more literary and experimental styles within the genre. The focus was less on blockbuster action and more on well-crafted prose and interesting concepts.
Its publication schedule was unpredictable, appearing at times several times a year, and other times with significant gaps between issues. This irregularity, combined with challenges in distribution, contributed to its ultimate demise in 2005. Despite its relatively short lifespan, Absolute Magnitude remains a fondly remembered small-press magazine within the science fiction community.
