5th Krajina (Kozara) Assault Brigade

The 5th Krajina (Kozara) Assault Brigade was a military unit of the People's Liberation Army of Yugoslavia (Partisans) during World War II. It was formed in the Kozara region of Bosnia in the autumn of 1942. The brigade was primarily composed of Serb and Bosniak (Muslim) volunteers from the surrounding area.

The brigade participated in numerous battles against Axis forces and their collaborators, including the Wehrmacht, Ustashe, and Chetniks, during the course of the war. It played a significant role in the liberation of territory within Bosnia and contributed to the broader Yugoslav Partisan effort.

The 5th Krajina (Kozara) Assault Brigade was particularly active in the Kozara region, which was a center of Partisan resistance and the site of significant Axis offensives. The brigade endured heavy casualties throughout the war, reflecting the intensity of the fighting in the region. Its soldiers were renowned for their bravery and resilience in the face of difficult conditions and numerically superior enemies.

Following the end of World War II, veterans of the 5th Krajina (Kozara) Assault Brigade were honored for their contributions to the liberation of Yugoslavia. The brigade is remembered as a symbol of the multi-ethnic resistance movement that fought against fascism during the war.
