2nd Army (Italy)
The 2nd Army was a field army of the Royal Italian Army (Regio Esercito) during both World War I and World War II.
World War I:
During World War I, the 2nd Army was primarily deployed on the Italian Front against Austria-Hungary. It participated in numerous battles, including the Battles of the Isonzo. Specific details regarding commanders, organization, and key engagements during this period would require more granular historical research.
World War II:
In World War II, the 2nd Army participated in the invasion of Yugoslavia in April 1941. Following the swift Axis victory, it was involved in occupation duties and anti-partisan operations in Yugoslavia. It also participated in the invasion of the Soviet Union as part of the Italian Expeditionary Corps in Russia (Corpo di Spedizione Italiano in Russia, or CSIR) and later as the Italian Army in Russia (Armata Italiana in Russia, or ARMIR). The 2nd Army suffered catastrophic losses during the Soviet counteroffensives of Operation Uranus and Operation Little Saturn in late 1942 and early 1943, particularly during the Battle of Stalingrad. The remnants of the 2nd Army were eventually withdrawn from the Eastern Front.
