Yob (band)
Yob is an American doom metal band from Eugene, Oregon, formed in 1996 by vocalist/guitarist Mike Scheidt. They are known for their heavy, psychedelic, and often spiritual approach to doom metal, incorporating elements of drone, progressive rock, and sludge metal.
The band's lineup has shifted over the years, but core member Mike Scheidt has remained the constant presence. The most consistent and recognizable lineup also includes Aaron Rieseberg on bass and Travis Foster on drums.
Yob's music is characterized by its dense, layered sound, extended song lengths, and introspective lyrics that often explore themes of consciousness, suffering, and transcendence. Scheidt's distinctive vocals range from clean singing to guttural growls, effectively conveying the emotional weight of the band's music.
The band has released several critically acclaimed albums, including Elaborations of Carbon (2002), The Unreal Never Lived (2005), The Great Cessation (2009), Atma (2011), Clearing the Path to Ascend (2014), Our Raw Heart (2018), and Our Raw Heart (2018) which documented Scheidt's near-death experience. Their most recent release is Healing: Efficacy (2024).
