Walter Erskine, Earl of Mar and Kellie (1865–1955)
Walter John Francis Erskine, 12th Earl of Mar and 14th Earl of Kellie (29 August 1865 – 5 July 1955), was a Scottish peer and soldier.
He was the son of Walter Henry Erskine, 11th Earl of Mar and 13th Earl of Kellie, and his wife, Mary Anne Forbes. He was educated at Eton College.
Erskine served in the British Army, rising to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 3rd Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He also served as a Justice of the Peace and a Deputy Lieutenant for Clackmannanshire.
He succeeded his father to the Earldoms of Mar and Kellie in 1888. He held various public offices, including Lord Lieutenant of Clackmannanshire from 1917 to 1955.
He married Susan Violet Ashley Cooper (died 1938), daughter of Francis Ashley Cooper, on 22 January 1892. They had five children:
- John Francis Ashley Erskine, Lord Erskine (1895-1953)
- Lady Susan Erskine (1893-1932)
- Lady Violet Erskine (1896-1917)
- Lady Constance Elise Erskine (1902-1993)
- Hon. Walter Kellie Erskine (1907-1928)
Upon his death in 1955, he was succeeded in his titles by his grandson, John Francis Hervey Erskine, as his eldest son, John Francis Ashley Erskine, Lord Erskine, had predeceased him.
