Tynnichus
Tynnichus is a genus of extinct arthropods belonging to the order Nectiopoda, a group within the stem-group crustaceans known from Cambrian Burgess Shale-type deposits. Fossils of Tynnichus have been found in the Burgess Shale Formation of British Columbia, Canada.
These creatures were small, swimming animals characterized by a series of paddle-like appendages along their bodies. Tynnichus possessed a distinct head shield and a segmented body ending in a tail spine. The paddle-like appendages are thought to have been used for propulsion through the water.
The phylogenetic placement of Tynnichus and other nectiopods is still under investigation, but they are generally considered to be closely related to other Cambrian arthropods, and they provide valuable insights into the early evolution and diversification of the arthropod lineage.
