Titus Verginius Tricostus Caeliomontanus (consul 448 BC)

Titus Verginius Tricostus Caeliomontanus was a Roman politician who served as consul in 448 BC, alongside Lars Tarquitius Flavus. He belonged to the patrician gens Virginia.

Very little is definitively known about his consulship. The historical record of the 5th century BC is fragmented and subject to significant embellishment and fabrication by later Roman writers. It is generally accepted that the period was marked by intense social and political tensions between the patricians and the plebeians, fueled by economic grievances and demands for greater political representation.

While specific events ascribed to his year in office are often considered unreliable, the general context suggests continued struggles over land distribution and the codification of laws. Some accounts mention further tribunician agitation, perhaps related to the ongoing quest for written laws to protect plebeian rights, which would eventually lead to the creation of the Decemvirate a few years later. The details of any specific legislative achievements or military campaigns undertaken during Verginius' consulship are obscure and debated by historians.
