The Goonies (MSX video game)

The Goonies is a 1985 platform game developed and published by Konami for the MSX home computer. It is based on the 1985 film of the same name.

The game features two distinct screens: a top-down overhead view and a side-scrolling platforming view. Players control Mikey as he explores various areas, solving puzzles and avoiding enemies to rescue his Goonie friends.

The primary objective of The Goonies is to find all of Mikey's imprisoned friends: Data, Mouth, Chunk, and Andy, who are located in different stages within the game. The game incorporates puzzle elements, requiring players to find keys, blow up walls, and use various items to progress.

The game is known for its challenging gameplay and limited lives. Death results in the loss of a life and restart of the current stage. There is no save or password feature, necessitating players to complete the entire game in one sitting.

The Goonies on the MSX is considered a classic title among fans of the MSX computer and is often remembered for its difficulty and faithfulness to the film's atmosphere. It was followed by a sequel, The Goonies II, which was released on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and MSX.
