Sunbreak
Sunbreak is a large-scale expansion to the 2021 action role-playing game Monster Hunter Rise, developed and published by Capcom. Released in June 2022, Sunbreak continues the story of the player character, a hunter, following the events of the base game.
Sunbreak introduces several key additions to the Monster Hunter Rise experience:
-
New Story and Setting: The expansion takes players to a new region known as Elgado Outpost, a hub area in a kingdom threatened by powerful monsters. The narrative centers around investigating these threats and restoring balance.
-
New Monsters: Sunbreak adds a significant number of new monsters to hunt, including both completely original creations and returning favorites from previous Monster Hunter titles. These monsters often possess unique attack patterns and require new strategies to defeat.
-
Master Rank: The expansion introduces a new difficulty tier called "Master Rank," which exceeds the High Rank difficulty of the base game. Monsters in Master Rank possess increased health, damage, and new moves, providing a greater challenge for experienced players.
-
New Skills and Armor: Sunbreak provides players with access to new armor sets, weapons, and skills, allowing for expanded build customization and more diverse combat styles.
-
Switch Skills and Silkbind Attacks: The expansion introduces new Switch Skills, which are customizable special attacks, and expands upon the Silkbind attacks introduced in Monster Hunter Rise, further enhancing the game's fast-paced action.
-
Follower Quests: A new feature allows players to embark on quests with non-player characters (NPCs) who assist in combat. These Followers have their own unique fighting styles and abilities, adding a new layer of strategy to hunts.
-
Anomaly Investigations: Post-game content that presents unique and challenging quests featuring afflicted monsters with increased difficulty and unique rewards.
Sunbreak is considered a significant expansion that enhances and expands upon the core gameplay of Monster Hunter Rise. It is often regarded as essential for players who enjoyed the base game and are seeking a more challenging and content-rich experience.
