Star of Courage (Canada)

The Star of Courage (French: Étoile du courage) is a Canadian bravery decoration created on May 1, 1972, by Queen Elizabeth II and awarded to individuals who have performed acts of conspicuous courage in circumstances of great peril. It is the second-highest bravery decoration in the Canadian Honours System, ranking immediately below the Cross of Valour and above the Medal of Bravery.

Awarded to both civilians and members of the Canadian Armed Forces, the Star of Courage recognizes courageous acts that are not directly related to military combat. Nominations are reviewed by the Canadian Decorations Advisory Committee, which then makes recommendations to the Governor General of Canada.

The medal itself is a silver star with four points, each containing maple leaves, with a raised maple leaf in the center. The ribbon is red with two blue stripes. Recipients are entitled to use the post-nominal letters "S.C."
