Sleepless Nights (Gram Parsons album)
Sleepless Nights is a posthumous album by Gram Parsons, compiled and released in January 1976 by A&M Records. It consists of unreleased tracks recorded primarily during sessions for Parsons' two solo albums, GP (1973) and Grievous Angel (1974), as well as some live recordings. Emmylou Harris features prominently on the album, providing harmonies and duets.
The tracks include alternate takes, outtakes, and covers of songs by artists such as the Louvin Brothers, the Everly Brothers, and Tom T. Hall. While not initially conceived as a cohesive studio album by Parsons himself, Sleepless Nights offers a glimpse into his musical process and collaborations.
The album's title track, "Sleepless Nights," is a cover of a song originally written and performed by Boudleaux and Felice Bryant. Other notable tracks include "Love Hurts" (a duet with Harris), "The Angels Rejoiced Last Night," and "Brand New Heartache."
Reception of the album has been generally positive, with critics often noting the strength of the material despite its compilation nature and the contributions of Emmylou Harris. Sleepless Nights remains a popular album for fans of Gram Parsons and country rock.
