Seseña
Seseña is a municipality located in the province of Toledo, in the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha, Spain. Situated approximately 36 kilometers south of Madrid, Seseña forms part of the comarca of La Sagra.
Historically an agricultural area, Seseña experienced rapid population growth in the early 21st century due to large-scale residential developments, particularly the "El Quiñón" urbanisation. This growth was partly driven by its proximity to Madrid and relatively lower housing costs compared to the capital. However, the 2008 financial crisis significantly impacted the area, leading to a slowdown in construction and challenges related to infrastructure and services for the expanded population.
The municipality is comprised of several distinct areas, including Seseña (the original town), Seseña Nuevo, and the aforementioned El Quiñón.
The economy of Seseña is primarily based on services, construction, and some remaining agricultural activities. It also benefits from its proximity to industrial zones and transport links.
Seseña has a local government consisting of a mayor and councilors, elected by popular vote. The municipality manages local services such as schools, healthcare facilities, and waste management.
