Sal Cannella (American football)
Sal Cannella (born July 31, 1997) is an American football tight end who is currently a free agent. He played college football at Auburn University and was signed by the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2020.
Cannella began his college career at Scottsdale Community College before transferring to Auburn in 2018. He played in 26 games for the Tigers, recording 26 receptions for 330 yards and five touchdowns.
After going undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft, Cannella signed with the Chicago Bears. He was waived during training camp and subsequently signed to the Miami Dolphins' practice squad. He was elevated to the active roster for one game in 2020, but did not record any statistics.
In 2021, Cannella signed with the New Orleans Saints. He spent the majority of the season on the practice squad, but was elevated to the active roster for one game, recording one reception for nine yards.
In 2022, Cannella was signed by the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL. He played in all ten regular season games, recording 42 receptions for 451 yards and five touchdowns. His performance earned him All-XFL honors.
Following the 2023 XFL season, Cannella signed with the Green Bay Packers in August 2023 but was released later that month. He was then drafted by the Birmingham Stallions of the United States Football League (USFL) in the 2024 UFL dispersal draft after the XFL and USFL merged to form the United Football League (UFL). He was subsequently released by the Stallions.
