Robert Wynn (United States Army soldier)

Robert Wynn was a United States Army soldier who received the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Vietnam War.

On January 6, 1969, Staff Sergeant Wynn was serving as a platoon sergeant with Company I, 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry, 199th Infantry Brigade, in Binh Duong Province, Republic of Vietnam. During a night defensive position, his company came under heavy attack by a large North Vietnamese Army force. Displaying extraordinary courage and leadership, Staff Sergeant Wynn repeatedly exposed himself to intense enemy fire to direct his men and repel the assault.

When a fragmentation grenade landed near several soldiers, Staff Sergeant Wynn, without hesitation, threw himself upon the grenade, absorbing the full force of the explosion with his body. This selfless act saved the lives of his fellow soldiers. Though critically wounded, he continued to direct the defense until the enemy attack was repulsed.

Staff Sergeant Wynn's extraordinary heroism and selfless devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.

He was subsequently awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery. Specific details about his life before and after his military service are limited in publicly available documentation.
