Quartet (video game)
Quartet is a side-scrolling platform arcade game released by Sega in 1986. It features cooperative gameplay for up to four players simultaneously, a relatively novel concept for arcade games at the time.
The game is set in a futuristic environment where players control one of four characters: Joe, Mary, Lee, or Edgar. Each character has a different weapon and plays slightly differently. The objective is to traverse through various levels, defeating enemies and collecting items, ultimately reaching the end of each stage.
The gameplay emphasizes cooperation, as players can revive each other if knocked down. The levels often feature branching paths and require teamwork to overcome obstacles. Quartet is known for its fast-paced action and the chaotic fun that can arise from multiple players coordinating their actions on screen.
The game was ported to several home consoles and computers, including the Sega Master System and various personal computers. It's considered a significant title for its pioneering cooperative gameplay and its impact on the development of multiplayer arcade games. While not as widely remembered as some other Sega arcade titles, Quartet holds a place in video game history for its innovative approach to multiplayer gaming.
