Progressive Labor Party (Victoria)

The Progressive Labor Party (PLP) (Victoria) was a minor, far-left political party in the Australian state of Victoria. It was a Maoist organization that existed primarily during the 1970s and 1980s. The party's ideology was based on Marxism-Leninism-Mao Zedong Thought.

The PLP (Victoria) advocated for socialist revolution, workers' rights, and opposition to capitalism and imperialism. They engaged in various forms of activism, including street demonstrations, workplace organizing, and the distribution of propaganda. The party's influence remained limited, and it never achieved significant electoral success.

While details regarding the specific membership numbers and key figures of the PLP (Victoria) are scarce and scattered amongst independent activist archives, they maintained a presence within certain trade unions and student groups. Like other Maoist groups of the time, they were critical of what they saw as revisionism within established communist parties. The party eventually faded from the political scene, and is no longer active. More historical research is necessary to fully document its history and activities.
