Presicce
Presicce is a frazione of the comune of Presicce-Acquarica in the province of Lecce, in the Apulia region of Italy. Previously an independent comune, Presicce merged with Acquarica del Capo in 2019 to form the new comune of Presicce-Acquarica.
Historically, Presicce was known as one of the comuni of the Salento peninsula. It is located in the southern part of the region, known for its olive groves and characteristic dry-stone walls. Presicce has agricultural significance, particularly in olive oil production.
Notable features of Presicce included its historic center, with its churches and palazzi, and its network of underground olive mills (Italian: frantoi ipogei). These underground mills were used to produce olive oil for centuries, providing a cool and stable environment for the process.
The economy of Presicce, prior to the merger, was primarily based on agriculture, with a growing interest in tourism in recent years due to its historical and cultural attractions.
