Posoco
Posoco, an abbreviation for Power System Operation Corporation, is the former name of Grid Controller of India Limited (GRID-INDIA), an Indian state-owned enterprise responsible for operating the Indian power grid. It ensures the integrated operation of the regional and national power grids, facilitating the transfer of electricity across different regions and states within India.
Posoco, established in 2009, was initially a subsidiary of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL). In 2017, it was granted independent government company status.
The core functions of Posoco, even under its new name of GRID-INDIA, involve real-time grid operation, power market operation, and grid management. These activities aim to maintain grid stability, security, and reliability, enabling efficient electricity transmission and distribution throughout the country. It also plays a critical role in implementing and overseeing the Indian Electricity Grid Code (IEGC), a set of rules and guidelines that govern the operation of the power system.
In 2024, Power System Operation Corporation (Posoco) was renamed Grid Controller of India Limited (GRID-INDIA) to better reflect its role as the apex body responsible for grid management and control in India.
