Panelist
A panelist is a participant in a panel discussion. A panel discussion is a format where a group of individuals (the panelists) engage in a conversation or debate on a specific topic in front of an audience.
Role of a Panelist:
Panelists are typically selected based on their expertise, experience, or perspective related to the topic being discussed. Their role is to:
- Share their knowledge and insights on the subject matter.
- Present their viewpoints and arguments.
- Respond to questions from a moderator or the audience.
- Engage in thoughtful discussion with other panelists.
- Offer diverse perspectives to provide a comprehensive understanding of the topic.
Selection Criteria:
Panelists are chosen for a variety of reasons, including:
- Expertise: Deep understanding of the topic.
- Experience: Practical involvement or background related to the topic.
- Representation: Offering a specific viewpoint or demographic perspective relevant to the discussion.
- Communication Skills: Ability to articulate ideas clearly and engagingly.
Distinction from Speaker:
While both panelists and speakers present information, a panelist typically participates in a more dynamic and conversational setting compared to a speaker who delivers a prepared presentation. A panelist engages in dialogue and responds to prompts, while a speaker primarily delivers a monologue.
