Pak Kung Au (Islands)
Pak Kung Au is a valley and a mountain pass located on Lantau Island, Hong Kong. It is situated between Sunset Peak (Tai Tung Shan) and Lantau Peak (Fung Wong Shan), two of the highest peaks in Hong Kong. The area is known for its scenic beauty and is a popular starting point for hiking trails that lead to various destinations on Lantau Island, including the Lantau Trail.
The name "Pak Kung Au" translates roughly to "White Old Man Pass." The origin of the name is debated, with theories ranging from its association with a local legend or historical figure to a description of the appearance of the landscape, possibly the white grass that grows in the area.
Pak Kung Au serves as a crucial transportation link, providing access to various parts of Lantau Island. It is accessible by public bus, making it a convenient starting point for hikers and visitors.
