Makaibari
Makaibari is a village and a tea garden located in the Kurseong subdivision of the Darjeeling district in West Bengal, India. Primarily known for its production of organic and biodynamic Darjeeling tea, Makaibari is one of the oldest tea estates in the region and is considered a pioneer in sustainable tea cultivation practices.
The name "Makaibari" translates to "maize garden" in the local Lepcha language, reflecting the area's original vegetation before tea cultivation began. The tea garden's history dates back to 1859 when it was established by G.C. Banerjee.
