Luis Olmo
Luis Olmo (August 11, 1919 – April 28, 2017) was a Puerto Rican professional baseball player. He played primarily as an outfielder in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1943 to 1945 and again in 1949.
Olmo was a pioneer in MLB, becoming one of the first Puerto Rican players to reach the major leagues. His career was interrupted by service in the United States Army during World War II. He is perhaps best remembered for his performance in the 1949 National League pennant race. In the final game of the season against the Philadelphia Phillies, Olmo delivered a crucial two-run double, helping the Dodgers secure the pennant. He also played professionally in the Puerto Rican Winter League.
After his playing career, Olmo remained involved in baseball, working as a coach and scout. He was inducted into the Puerto Rican Baseball Hall of Fame.
