Kevin Moran (footballer)
Kevin Moran (born 5 March 1956) is a former Irish international footballer and Gaelic footballer. He is one of a select group of players to have played in both the FIFA World Cup and the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship final.
Moran began his sporting career playing Gaelic football for Dublin. He won two All-Ireland Senior Football Championship medals with Dublin in 1976 and 1977. His performances for Dublin attracted the attention of soccer scouts, and he signed for Manchester United in 1978.
A central defender, Moran played for Manchester United from 1978 to 1988, making 289 appearances and scoring 24 goals in all competitions. He won two FA Cup winners' medals with United, in 1983 and 1985. He was the first player to be sent off in an FA Cup final, receiving his marching orders in the 1985 final against Everton.
Moran also played for Sporting Gijón in Spain and Blackburn Rovers in England before retiring from professional football in 1994.
At international level, Moran represented the Republic of Ireland on 71 occasions, scoring 6 goals. He was a key member of the Irish squad that qualified for Euro 1988 and the 1990 FIFA World Cup, playing in both tournaments.
After retiring from football, Moran has worked as a football agent. He is regarded as a legend by both Gaelic football and association football fans in Ireland.
