John Arundell (admiral)
John Arundell (c. 1500 – 1561) was an English naval officer and Member of Parliament.
Life and Career:
Arundell belonged to the ancient Cornish family of Arundell of Lanherne. He was the son of Sir John Arundell (died 1545) of Lanherne and Eleanor Grey.
He served in the Royal Navy during the reigns of Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I. His service is documented through various commissions and commands, particularly during periods of tension and conflict with France and other maritime powers. He distinguished himself in several naval engagements. Specific details of these engagements are, however, somewhat limited and require further historical corroboration to fully detail.
Arundell was also a Member of Parliament for Cornwall in 1553.
Family:
John Arundell married twice. His first marriage was to Mary Beville, daughter of John Beville. His second marriage was to Catherine Grenville, daughter of Sir Thomas Grenville. He had issue from both marriages.
