Jijiga (woreda)
Jijiga is a woreda (district) located in the Somali Region of Ethiopia. It is considered a special woreda, meaning it is administered separately from other woredas due to its unique status. Jijiga woreda entirely surrounds the city of Jijiga, the capital of the Somali Region. It is administratively distinct from the city itself.
As a woreda, Jijiga has its own local government responsible for administering services and implementing policies within its geographical boundaries. The woreda's administration deals with issues such as agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure development, and security within its area of responsibility.
The population of Jijiga woreda is primarily Somali. The area is largely rural, with the main economic activities being pastoralism and agriculture. Due to its proximity to the regional capital, Jijiga woreda also experiences some economic activity related to trade and commerce.
