HMS Snap

HMS Snap was a British Royal Navy Acacia-class sloop built during World War I. These sloops were designed for anti-submarine warfare and convoy escort duties. Snap served throughout the latter part of the war and into the immediate post-war period.

Service History:

Snap was built by Blyth Shipbuilding & Dry Docks Co. Ltd. After commissioning, she primarily operated in the Atlantic, protecting merchant ships from U-boat attacks. Acacia-class sloops were equipped with anti-submarine weaponry such as depth charges and hydrophones to detect underwater vessels. While detailed accounts of Snap's specific wartime engagements are limited, her presence undoubtedly contributed to the overall effort of maintaining vital supply lines.

Following the Armistice in 1918, Snap continued in Royal Navy service for a short period before being disposed of. Many ships of this class were deemed surplus to requirements in the peacetime navy.

Fate:

HMS Snap was sold into civilian service in 1922.
