HMAS Success (OR 304)

HMAS Success (OR 304) was a Durance-class multi-product replenishment oiler operated by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). Built by Cockatoo Island Dockyard in Sydney, Australia, she was commissioned in 1986. Success provided fuel, dry stores, ammunition, and other supplies to RAN and allied ships, significantly extending their operational range and endurance.

Based on the French Navy's Durance class, Success underwent several upgrades throughout her career, including improvements to her combat and communications systems. She participated in numerous exercises and deployments both domestically and internationally, serving in operations such as the INTERFET mission to East Timor in 1999, maritime interdiction operations in the Persian Gulf, and humanitarian aid efforts following natural disasters.

Success was capable of replenishing two ships simultaneously via abeam transfer and also featured a helicopter deck for vertical replenishment and other support tasks. Her armament primarily consisted of self-defense systems.

Decommissioned in June 2019, HMAS Success was replaced by HMAS Supply, the first of the RAN's Supply-class replenishment ships. Her decommissioning marked the end of an era for the RAN, as she was the last ship built at Cockatoo Island Dockyard to remain in service.
