Everes (mythology)

In Greek mythology, Everes (Ancient Greek: Εὐήρης) was the name of several individuals:

  1. Everes, Father of Tiresias: The most well-known Everes was the father of the famous seer Tiresias and a nymph named Chariclo. He was a companion of the Spartoi, the sown men who sprang from the teeth of the dragon slain by Cadmus. He figures prominently in accounts of Tiresias' life and is often mentioned in connection with the circumstances of Tiresias' blindness or gift of prophecy.

  2. Everes, Son of Pterelaus: Everes was one of the sons of Pterelaus, king of Taphos, and therefore a Tapian prince. Pterelaus possessed a golden hair given to him by Poseidon, which rendered him immortal. The sons of Pterelaus, including Everes, were eventually slain by Amphitryon during a war fought on behalf of Electryon, king of Mycenae, whose cattle the Taphians had raided. The lone survivor was Comaetho, who betrayed his father by plucking the golden hair.

  3. Everes, Companion of Aeneas: A Trojan who accompanied Aeneas in his travels to Italy following the fall of Troy, as recounted in Virgil's Aeneid. He is a minor character within the epic.
