DX-Ball 2

DX-Ball 2 is a shareware brick-breaking computer game, released in 1998 by Seaward Software. It is a sequel to the original DX-Ball, and builds upon the classic Arkanoid gameplay formula with enhanced graphics, sound, and new features.

Gameplay involves controlling a paddle at the bottom of the screen to deflect a ball upwards, aiming to break bricks arranged in patterns. Breaking all the bricks on a level advances the player to the next. DX-Ball 2 features a wide variety of brick types, some requiring multiple hits to break, and others possessing special properties.

Power-ups are a core element of the game. These are released from broken bricks and caught by the paddle. They provide advantages such as increasing the paddle size, launching multiple balls, equipping the paddle with lasers, or slowing down the ball. Conversely, some power-ups introduce disadvantages like shrinking the paddle or speeding up the ball.

DX-Ball 2 boasts a large number of levels, spread across multiple boards (sets of levels). Players can progress through these boards sequentially or use level codes to jump to specific levels. The game also includes a level editor, allowing users to create and share their own custom levels and boards.

The game's success led to the development of expansion packs, adding more levels, bricks, and power-ups. These expansions further extended the game's lifespan and provided a continuous stream of new content for players. DX-Ball 2 retains a dedicated following and is considered a classic within the brick-breaking genre.
