DJ Quik
DJ Quik (born David Marvin Blake on January 18, 1970) is an American rapper, songwriter, DJ, and record producer. He is widely recognized as a major figure in West Coast hip hop, known for his funk-infused beats and smooth, melodic rapping style.
Quik rose to prominence in the early 1990s with his debut album, Quik Is the Name (1991), which achieved platinum status. This album showcased his signature sound, characterized by heavy basslines, intricate drum patterns, and samples drawn from funk, soul, and jazz. He is known for playing most of the instruments on his tracks himself.
Throughout his career, DJ Quik has released several critically acclaimed and commercially successful albums, including Way 2 Fonky (1992), Safe + Sound (1995), Rhythm-al-ism (1998), Balance & Options (2000), Under tha Influence (2002), Trauma (2005), The Book of David (2011), and Rosecrans (2016), a collaboration with Problem.
Beyond his solo work, DJ Quik has also had a significant impact as a producer, working with a wide range of artists, including 2Pac, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, Janet Jackson, and many others.
