Celsius (crater)

Celsius is a lunar impact crater located in the rugged highlands along the southern edge of Mare Nubium. It lies northwest of the crater Zach, and south-southeast of Büchner.

The rim of Celsius is worn and somewhat irregular, with several small craters along its edge. The interior floor is relatively level and featureless, lacking a central peak. A notable characteristic is the presence of several ghost craters within Celsius's boundaries, indicating older craters that have been flooded by lava or buried by ejecta.

The crater is named after Swedish astronomer and physicist Anders Celsius, inventor of the Celsius temperature scale. Its diameter is approximately 50 kilometers.
