Carpați (cigarette)
Carpați is a Romanian brand of cigarettes. It was one of the most popular cigarette brands in Romania during the communist era and continued to be widely consumed in the post-communist period, although its market share has declined significantly with the introduction and popularity of international brands.
Typically unfiltered, Carpați cigarettes were known for their strong, harsh taste and relatively low price, making them accessible to a broad segment of the population. The brand name is derived from the Romanian word for the Carpathian Mountains ("Carpații"), a prominent geographical feature of Romania.
Although still available in some regions, its availability and popularity have diminished due to changing consumer preferences and stricter regulations on tobacco advertising and sale. Modern versions of the Carpați cigarette may be filtered and offered in different variants, though the original unfiltered version remains the most historically significant.
