Cactus Jack (band)

Cactus Jack was a Canadian rock band active primarily in the 1970s. The band was formed in Toronto, Ontario, and was known for its hard rock sound, blues influences, and energetic stage presence. Core members included vocalist and guitarist Terry Watkinson, who later gained fame as a keyboardist with the band Max Webster. Other notable members included guitarist Steve Shelski.

Cactus Jack toured extensively across Canada, building a strong following particularly in the Ontario bar scene. While they didn't achieve widespread mainstream success, they released several albums and singles that received airplay on Canadian radio stations. Their music often featured driving guitar riffs, powerful vocals, and lyrics that reflected the working-class experience.

The band's lineup experienced some changes over the years. After Cactus Jack disbanded, Terry Watkinson joined Max Webster in 1977, significantly contributing to their musical direction. The band's contribution to the Canadian rock music landscape of the 1970s, though not as widely celebrated as some of their contemporaries, remains an important part of the era's musical heritage. Despite their relative obscurity today, Cactus Jack retains a dedicated following among fans of Canadian classic rock.
