Bir Puadh

Bir Puadh is a region located in the Doaba area of Punjab, India. It is characterized by its alluvial plains situated between the Sutlej and Beas rivers. The name "Bir" refers to a protected or reserved area, often a grassland or scrubland, while "Puadh" signifies the eastern part of Punjab, sharing linguistic and cultural similarities with the Puadh region found east of the Sutlej. Consequently, Bir Puadh represents a localized pocket within the broader Puadh cultural and geographical zone, west of the Sutlej. The region is predominantly agricultural and known for its distinct Punjabi dialect, which reflects the influence of the larger Puadh linguistic area. The term is also sometimes used loosely to denote the areas bordering the Sutlej River within the Doaba region.
