Galtür

Galtür is a village and municipality in the district of Landeck in the Austrian state of Tyrol. It is a popular tourist destination, particularly known for skiing and other winter sports. Located in the Paznaun valley, Galtür is situated at an altitude of 1,584 meters (5,197 feet) above sea level.

The village is part of the Silvretta Arena ski area, which it shares with Ischgl, although Galtür is generally considered a more family-friendly resort. Galtür gained international notoriety in 1999 due to a devastating avalanche that struck the village, resulting in numerous fatalities and widespread damage. Since the avalanche, significant efforts have been made to improve avalanche protection, including the construction of extensive defense structures.
