André Billy (writer)

André Billy (1882-1979) was a French writer and literary critic. He was born in Fontenay-sous-Bois, France, and died in Neuilly-sur-Seine.

Billy was a prolific author, writing novels, essays, biographies, and literary criticism. He is perhaps best known for his studies of French literature, particularly his works on Marcel Proust, Gustave Flaubert, and Honoré de Balzac. He also wrote extensively on the history of French journalism.

Billy was a member of the Académie Goncourt, serving as its secretary-general from 1947 to 1968. He was awarded the Grand Prix du Roman de l'Académie française in 1925 for his novel La Treizième Heure.
