Alleged (horse)

Alleged was an Irish-bred, French-trained Thoroughbred racehorse who achieved international fame in 1977 by winning the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Europe's most prestigious horse race, twice in a row.

Alleged was foaled in 1974 and was trained throughout his career by Patrick "Paddy" Prendergast. He was owned by Robert Sangster's Swettenham Stud. As a three-year-old, Alleged developed into a top-class colt, culminating in his first victory in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp Racecourse in Paris.

In 1978, he returned to Longchamp and successfully defended his title, becoming the first horse since Ksar in 1921-22 to win consecutive runnings of the Arc. This cemented his reputation as one of the leading middle-distance horses of his era.

Following his European success, Alleged was sent to the United States where he raced with mixed results. He finished second in the Washington, D.C. International Stakes.

Alleged was retired to stud and became a successful sire of racehorses. He died in 2005. His legacy remains as a dual Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner and a notable influence on Thoroughbred breeding.
